STATE & POWER
Understanding power. Explaining a changing world.
Standards

Editorial Standards

Forceful political analysis should never require readers to confuse conclusions with the factual record.

Evidence before assertion

Important factual claims should be traceable to reliable evidence. We use primary documents and data whenever practical and identify secondary reporting separately.

Explain mechanisms

Our analysis asks who holds power, what authority or resource creates that power, what constrains it and what observable consequence follows.

Separate fact from interpretation

Reporting, attributed claims and State & Power analysis should be distinguishable. Uncertainty is stated rather than converted into artificial confidence.

Test competing explanations

Analysis should engage serious alternative interpretations without forcing every article into an identical visible template.

No party line

State & Power has no institutional endorsement policy and applies the same evidentiary standards across political actors.

Corrections matter

Material factual errors are corrected promptly and significant uncertainty is made visible.
